Kei Taniguchi was born and raised in Yokohama City, Japan. Early in life his greatest dream was to see the world. He decided that to achieve this, he would need to pursue a career in journalism, or become a pilot. In high school he began taking photos of his school life with his father's camera, and came to the realisation that he could fulfill his dream by becoming a photographer.

He graduated from Nihon University, College of Arts in Tokyo, majoring in photography. Inspired by the likes of Jack Kerouac's 'On the Road', photographer Robert Frank in his work 'The Americans' and films such as Wim Wender's 'Paris Texas' or Godfrey Reggio's 'Koyaanisqatsi' Kei completed his final work, for which he received an award, traveling though the mid-west of the continental US.

He moved to New York City not long after and began an apprenticeship working for Whiskey Studio under the tutalage of photographer Keibun Miyamoto. During this time he assisted on advertising, fashion and portrait shoots both on location and in the studio and learnt the skills, attitude and philosophy necessary for professional photography.

To this day he often goes on the road with a backpack, camping gear and his camera, continuing his childhood dream as a means to achieve balance between his life and his work. Places visited include Afghanistan, Spain, Namibia, Brazil, Mexico, Morocco, France, Egypt, Israel, Laos, Thailand, South Africa, Zambia, and Australia to name just a few.

"My theme for both life and photography is 'Crossing Over', - boundaries such as race, religion, thought, borders and nationality in order to capture an understanding of the inherent individuality and similarity which exists in this world.I live, to see and to feel.

Photography has always given me opportunities to do so."

He bases himself in Tokyo, Japan.
